Diane Foreman
Emerald Group Limited
Conference Dinner Guest Speaker

It’s not surprising that Diane Foreman was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2009. Her portfolio under Emerald Group demonstrates not only financial success across a range of sectors but also an ability to see potential where others don’t or are currently failing.

Emerald Foods was purchased from an international company that had failed to make it profitable. Today its production of ice cream is so successful its New Zealand Natural brand is in 21 countries around the world. In fact every nine days a new outlet opens somewhere across the globe. Its investment in research and development has ensured new and exciting products to be produced many of them world firsts and award winners.

Diane’s true passion lies in her 23 percent shareholding in Healthcare Holdings. As a result of Diane’s drive to lift health standards for New Zealanders in addition to providing private hospital and clinic facilities through a 100 percent ownership of the MercyAscot Group, as a country we now have access to private radiotherapy. This joint venture with Southern Cross has ensured New Zealand’s public waiting lists are reducing. In October Healthcare Holdings purchased New Zealand’s first PET scanner.

Her boutique accommodation Emerald Inn is a far cry from the property she purchased from the receivers in 1995 and so are the occupancy rates! Her long-term plan for this property is a state-of-the-art retirement village.
Motivated to ensure Diane always had access to top talent she established Emergent with a 50 percent shareholding partner. All of Emerald Groups executives have come through Emergent.

Diane has for many years been involved in philanthropic activities particularly Hearing House. She has four children and two step-children.
